The Bowed Psaltery is a unique and
beautiful instrument that, we believe, may have been 
designed
in Europe less than 100 years ago to help teach elementary school children how
music works. It is played with a handcrafted horsehair bow, has an
ethereal tone and is delightfully easy and fun to play. This picture shows
a beautiful bookmatched 2 Octave with a Coco Bolo top and Curly Maple binding,
bridge and rosette.
Jerry makes his 2 Octave models in 20 or so
different woods such as these pictured as well as Purpleheart, Rosewood,
Australian Lacewood, Ebony, Cherry, Black Walnut, Che Chen, African Bubinga,
African Padouk , Hawaiian Koa and Chakta Cote and Spruce.
The 2 Octave Psaltery's range extends from the G
above "middle" C to the third G above "middle" C. The notes along the right edge
(in the right handed model) are natural notes, like the white keys on the piano.
The notes along the left edge are like the black keys (sharps and flats). 
Any model can be made in a left handed version, (with the natural notes on the
left side) by special order.
The grain patterns of the wood can be quite
spectacular and colorful. Jerry book-matches all exotic wood tops.
The two Octave model comes with a small single rosette, an adjustable
horse-hair bow, tuning wrench, instruction booklet (by Lisa), rosin and tuning
chart. Semi-hardshell cases are available. Our

1/2 Octave Bowed Psaltery
Our
2 1/2 Octave Psaltery comes with a beautiful double-rosette just like Jerry's
Hammer Dulcimers. The soundboard selection is limited to the softer, more
resonant woods such as Spruce, Mahogany, Western Cedar, African Padouk, Hawaiian
Koa or Spalted Maple. The 2 1/2 Octave model comes with a tuning wrench,
rosin, a horsehair bow, instruction booklet and tuning
chart. Cases are available too! Where the 2 Octave model's lowest
note is the G above "middle" C ... the 2 1/2 Octave model's lowest note is
"middle" C and then goes up: C#, D, D#, E, F and F# to reach the G. It
also adds an extra A on the high end. These beautiful instruments are unusual,
and always attract the curiosity of listeners. Our 2
