Announcing ... The Song of the Wood and Perelandra Recording/Performance Studio Scholarship/Sponsorship Funding Program (A chance for you to help someone experience a "dream.")
I have a long term vision for the Performing Arts, the Art of Musical Instrument Design, Evolution and Manufacture ... and the Education and subsequent integration of our younger or, even, older people into a world more hopeful than one they might be imagining. This new education is really patterned after the "old world" relationship between a Mentor and his Apprentice or Apprentices. This "new education" can be realized in a myriad of forms. You can help determine how far this vision might reach. My home ... the one our Creator led me to in 1972 is here in the Black Mountain/Swannanoa Valley region of western North Carolina, USA. I was led into my life's work ... right here. I've given this work all I have to give for the last 35 years. It's been more enjoyable than I ever imagined, more challenging than I would have ever dared and more rewarding than I've ever deserved. I want to pass along my appreciation for the gifts God has given me to others ... and so I've carefully formulated a plan. I've traveled these blessed roads, paths and woodlands on 2 feet, on 2 wheels and on 4 (wheels). I am far more deeply in love with this little corner of God's green earth than at any time prior to today. This area could end up like so many others ... too many people in too small an environment, too much money being the deciding factor in matters more important than money and shortsighted visions being mistaken for progress when a more reasoned approach would have been more prudent ... "now that we're looking back." I've looked back for many years now. I've thought ahead for years now. I've been called a dreamer, delusional, naive. I've been over-estimated, under-estimated, not estimated at all. While I've been pretty busy ... at times these "judgments" have reached beyond my hopes, my work ... and my dreams ... and they've hurt. Can anyone relate here? But still I can't give up. Why? Because I, hopefully like you, was not designed that way. And so ... we persevere ... toward a grander hope than our collective minds can comprehend. OK ... so back to my vision. It's finding it's genesis right here at Song of the Wood Workshop and Showroom ... and at Perelandra Recording/Performance Studio. The idea of this Scholarship/Sponsorship Program is to give someone who has the means, but not the time or personal inclination maybe for themselves , to allow another to enjoy the benefits of an evening Concert, a daytime Workshop, an Apprenticeship in Instrument Making or Playing, etc, etc. My vision eventually expands into Mentor/Apprentice relationships in Musical Instrument creation, design, construction, manufacture, quality control ... and then on into all aspects of real world marketing including web site and internet ... right along into "brick and mortar" retail including display, inventory, stocking, sales, customer relations etc. The vision continues into all aspects of the Performing Arts. This Mentor/Apprentice relationship rather than the traditional Teacher/Class approach is at the heart of the vision. On the Performing Arts side we have Live Stage Performance, Lighting, Sound, Engineering, Production, Recording, Mixing, Mastering along into real world marketing including Packaging, Reproduction, various means of Internet Exposure, Distribution, Retail, etc. So how can you engage? You can make us aware of someone you think might enjoy what we have going on here. You can send or bring someone to a Concert. You can sponsor or join someone in a Workshop. You can simply contribute to the Program or Fund. We at Song of the Wood and Perelandra Studio are looking for eager, talented, ambitious younger or older people to join with us in producing quality relationships with our work and each other. Could you be such a person?
