Hammers

I believe that a set of hammers is a lot like a pair of shoes.  You need the pair that feels just right for you ... it can make all the difference.  For these it is definitely best to visit our showroom in person ... but we will work with you over the phone and by post too!

Dusty Strings Double-Sided Hammers (middle) Price: $45.00
Simple Double-Sided Hammers (right) Price: $39.00

*Note:  Hammers tend to be a very individual decision.  If you call us we will ask you some questions and try to fit you the best we can!

Hammer Dulcimer Stands

We carry several types of stands, to try and match different players' preferences.  Some are fully adjustable, in which both the height and  playing angle of the Dulcimer can be changed. (left) They can be adjusted to a wide variety of positions for playing while either standing or sitting.

Others are simpler, with the height and angle fixed in a position that is suitable for most players, (although individual preferences do vary). The fixed types come in different heights for standing or sitting. All are made of various hardwoods from maple to ash to black walnut.

The most compact and lightweight are the Dusty Strings "scissor" type stands. (right) They have a rope across the top, and fold up quite small.

The best thing to do is to call us at the showroom and see what we have that might best suit your needs.  We are constantly getting new and different models.

Electronic Tuner

Probably your most valuable piece of equipment next to the Dulcimer itself is a reliable battery powered chromatic tuner.   With the "alligator tuning clip"  you can even tune in a noisy room. This Korg automatic chromatic tuner is one of the smallest and lightest we've seen.  By automatic we mean that you strike a note on the instrument and the tuner will tell you which note it is and exactly where it is in relation to the pitch you've calibrated.  You can adjust the pitch calibration either above or below A440 (concert standard) to enable to "quick tune" the instrument to itself rather than totally retune.  It has an LCD display and the ability to make a sound, so you can tune to it by ear.    You know ... we used to carry several different models of battery powered tuners but everyone around here clearly thought this one was the best of them all.  It's reliable, accurate and a fantastic value for the price.
Korg Tuner Price: $24.95       Alligator Tuning Clip Price: $15.00

Padded Cordura Nylon Cases

We carry two "Song of the Wood" cases at this point.  Unfortunately the American company that used to make them for us has gone out of business.  We now have to get them from China!  They come with hand-loops, a shoulder strap and a zippered accessories pocket.  They are very light but provide convenient protection and ease of transport.

3 1/2 Octave Chromatic Case
Price: $119.00
4 1/2 or 5 Octave Chromatic Case
Price: $129.00
To Order!

These are prices for our own custom made cases, with the Song of the Wood logo. We also carry cases from other makers, so sometimes we have more than one choice to fit a given dulcimer. Prices for other cases may not be the same as ours, but they're usually not too far off.

*Note: If your dulcimer isn't one of the models we make or carry, you'll need to measure it so we can determine which case will work. We'll need the width at the bottom rail, the width at the top rail, the distance between the top and bottom rails (straight down the middle of the soundboard), and the thickness (including the bridges). We'll also need to know if it's asymmetrical, and if it has any handles or other protrusions that might affect the fit.
