We don't make harps ourselves, but several customers asked about them, so we figured it wouldn't hurt to have a couple on hand. After talking with some local players and teachers, we settled on a couple of models that we felt very good about:

The Allegro

The Allegro, (the larger of the two in this picture) from Dusty Strings, is a 26 string folk harp, with the low end extending an octave below middle C. Its 3 1/2 octave range makes it versatile, yet it's still small enough to be very portable. Players say it has the volume and tone you might expect from a much larger harp. It's tuned in the key of C, but has sharping levers (which can raise the pitch a half step) on the Fs and Cs, so it can also be played in the keys of G and D without retuning. Additional levers are optional, and can be bought individually, or you can get the Allegro equipped with a full set of levers. The soundboard is laminated Maple. The neck, pillar, sides and back are made of solid Honduras Mahogany, all finished in a clear lacquer.

It comes with four legs, about a foot long, which screw into the bottom of the instrument, making it a good height to play in a sitting position. Otherwise, it would probably work well on a foot stool if you're sitting, or on a bar stool if you're standing. The height is about 40 1/2 inches (without the legs) and it weighs approximately 14 lbs.

A padded cordura nylon case, with a zippered pocket and a detachable shoulder strap, is sold separetely.

The Zephyr

The Zephyr travel harp, from Triplett, is designed to fit in the overhead compartment of most airplanes, so you don't have to worry about checking it with your luggage and having it tossed around by the apes from the old Samsonite commercial!

In spite of its small size (28 inches high and about 4 1/2 lbs.) it still has 22 strings and a full three octave range, beginning at middle C. The string spacing is slightly closer than normal, but most people find it to still be very workable. It has blade levers on the Cs and Fs, allowing it to be played in the keys of C, G, and D, without retuning.

The soundboard is laminated Maple. The rest of the instrument (neck, pillar, sides, and back) is available in either Walnut, (pictured) Cherry, or Maple.

Once we had those two models in stock,  and had sold several of them, some of our customers started asking about larger harps. We talked to the folks at Dusty strings and Triplett, as well as some of the local players, and came up with a couple more possibilities.

The Crescendo

This is a 32 string, 4 1/2 octave folk harp from Dusty Strings. It has a design similar to the Allegro, but with an extended range, from the second E below Middle C to a high A. It's just under 50 inches tall, and weighs 23 lbs., so although it's somewhat larger than the Allegro, it's still still light enough to carry, and would easily fit in the back seat of most cars. The soundboard is laminated Birch, and the rest of the instrument is Black Walnut. It also has sharping levers on each string, to give you a wider selection of keys to play in.

The Nylon 30

This 30 string, 4+ octave harp from Triplett has a range extending from a low G to a high A. It was formerly made only to be used as a rental model, but they had so many requests for it, they decided to make it available for retail sale. It's almost the same size and weight as the Crescendo, at 21 lbs. and 50 inches high. It comes in either Walnut or Cherry, (Walnut being the darker of the two pictured) with blade type sharping levers on each string, or just on the Cs and Fs. (Check with us to see what options we currently have in stock.)
