I have been representing the McSpaddens for probably 30 years or more. This "heart" soundhole design comes in the traditional "hourglass" shape. It is a 4 string instrument allowing for either a double melody string or 4 equal spaced strings which enables more involved chording possibilities. This instrument is constructed entirely of solid Black Walnut which includes the top, sides, back, headstock and fretboard.
Along with this instrument you also receive a padded cordura nylon gig bag with a zippered accessories pocket, an instructional book, pick and noter. The instruction book concentrates on D-A-A and D-A-D tuning (The dulcimer will be tuned in D-A-D). These are probably the two most popular ways to tune your instrument. The book also gives you several strumming exercises, chord shapes (fingering positions), 17 popular songs and many helpful tips.
The "Hourglass" design is probably the most traditional of all Mountain Dulcimer body shapes. Likewise the "Heart" soundholes are among the earliest and traditional of all soundhole designs.l
